Local authorities are under increasing pressure to implement sustainable development strategies as well as demonstrate good practice in environmental management. It is firmly on the political agenda and officers and members need to keep abreast of new legislation and initiatives.
Global to Local courses are aimed at local authority officers and members responsible for sustainable development and environmental management. The courses include examples of best practice as well as in-depth discussion on practical implementation.
Our courses are at their most effective when arranged for individual councils or on a regional basis. We discuss the requirements with you and devise a specialist course for up to 25 participants.
Topics covered:
Best Practice EMAS: Improving your Councils environmental performance. Contract Specifications - A series of courses each focusing on a key environmental contract: Highways, Parks & Open Spaces, Cleansing or Waste Management: Best Practice Purchasing: Purchasing solutions Practical Responses to Climate Change: Producing a climate change strategy Training The Trainers - Sustainable Development: Techniques for training colleagues European Funding Opportunities: Review the main funding programmes, Risk Management: Plan ahead for legislative change
With each course we aim to give participants:

- shared information and experience with colleagues in other authorities

Our experienced trainers are from local authority backgrounds and are therefore familiar with the restraints and culture of local government. The courses involve interactive group work and all delegates receive comprehensive briefing notes, a complete course write-up and a directory of useful e-mail addresses and websites.
