The Sixth Ministerial Conference Environment for Europe took place in Belgrade 9n October 2007, where European Ministers and heads of delegations adopted the so-called Belgrade Statement on Biodiversity, via which they reconfirmed Europe's political commitment to the European biodiversity 2010 target to halt the decline of biodiversity by the year 2010. Information from the event is now available online, including outcomes from two events which highlighted the important role of regions and municipalities in implementing the European biodiversity 2010 target, furthering the actions of these stakeholders in the framework of the Countdown 2010 initiative and presenting the results of the international conference Regions as Champions for Biodiversity 2010; and the main achievements so far in establishing the Pan-European Ecological Network (PEEN), focusing on stakeholder-oriented implementation activities.
