Derek Taylor BA, MA, MRTPI

Before establishing Global to Local, Derek was Lancashire County Councils head of Planning Policy and was instrumental in establishing the Councils international reputation as a policy and action leader on sustainable development. His particular expertise is in Local Agenda 21 in the UK and the developing world, training, sustainability reporting, public and stakeholder involvement, environmental management policy and land use planning. He managed the team which pioneered state-of-the-art UK practice in State of the Environment Reporting and the development and application of local sustainability indicators.

His main area of activity with Global to Local has been the provision of policy advice and customised training programmes to help clients develop and apply sustainable development policies and solutions. He has supplied this advice and training for clients operating at the local, regional, national and international levels.

Derek has given advice to the Association of County Councils, UK Local Government and international organisations and has lectured widely at home and abroad. His expertise in sustainability issues and environmental monitoring is reflected in the fact that he was the UK local authority lead advisor on environmental statistics to the Central-Local Government Information Development Liaison Group. He was also a member of the DOE Environmental Statistics Advisory Group. He is a member of the Planning Officers' Society Sustainability Group and Chairman of the Board of the Lancashire - Gulu (Uganda) Local Agenda 21 Link Ltd.
