SMART SPP is a project supported by Intelligent Energy Europe which is pursuing the development, testing and revision of highly energy-efficient environmental technologies, and bringing them onto the market. This is being achieved by using an approach to manage risk at the pre-procurement phase, to develop a life cycle costing tool, and a tool to help local authorities to assess the degree of carbon dioxide savings which can be achieved through using these technologies. It started in October 2008, and will continue until September 2011.
The project will particularly focus on the following technologies:
SMART SPP focuses strongly on implementation, and includes five public authorities in the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal as well as environmental organisations including Global to Local Ltd. Other local authorities are welcome to join as non-recipient partners if they wish to receive the benefits involved in working closely with the project.
