The Procura+ campaign was established in 2004 by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability to help drive the mainstreaming of sustainable public procurement. Through participating in the Campaign, public authorities can contribute to a growing international movement and help bring about real changes in the market for sustainable products and services.

The campaign can help local authorities in the UK implement sustainable procurement more effectively. The Procura+ manual describes a systematic approach to driving down impacts of procurement and can be used to support  climate change strategies as well as wider sustainable procurement strategies.

 

The Procura+ manual contains detailed specification advice for key commodity groups that cover some of the groups identified by the Sustainable Procurement Task Force in the UK as having the largest sustainability impact in public sector procurement.

Using these specifications can provide an effective shortcut towards more sustainable procurement and help local authorities move up the stages of flexible framework.

The campaign website also provides clear links to the EU GPP website which contains a wide range of material including specifications for sustainable products that conform entirely to EC procurement regulations.

Global to Local are keen to assist local authorities in making real and rapid changes in their procurement practices. Hence we have agreed to be the UK National Partner for Procura+ and we hope to encourage more local authorities to join the campaign and use its resources.
