Example items on ESD:

Engaging Places is an initiative supported by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) and English Heritage, providing an online resource to help schools teach by using the buildings and places around them. Schools will be able to use Engaging Places to access a nationwide directory of organisations and venues, including architecture centres, museums and historic buildings. They will also be able to search for high quality resources and materials by curriculum theme or whole school issues. In addition, they can access case studies from fellow teachers.

The Academy for Sustainable Communities has produced a toolkit for teachers which seeks to offer ways which will not only teach about sustainable communities but introduce and support the planning, delivery and evaluation of an active citizenship project. The toolkit includes ideas, resources, activities and teaching aids designed to raise awareness of sustainable communities, inspire young people to play a part in improving their communities and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to devise and run successful citizen projects. It includes resources in four main areas: What makes a good community; What can we do to improve our communities; Planning and carrying out an active citizenship project; and Celebrate and evaluate achievements.
